Strengthening Peace Together: FCDO Visits Greater Pibor

Between 14 and 17 July 2026, we had the honour of hosting a delegation from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA). The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the UK Aid-funded peacebuilding work being implemented through the Peacebuilding Opportunities Fund.

Over four days, the FCDO team met with the people who matter most in this work. They sat with members of the Cattle Traders Association, the Intercommunal Governance Structure, our local implementing partners, traditional leaders and elders, the Bridges of Peace women, faith leaders, local peace actors, and government officials, including the Chief Administrator of GPAA.

The message that came back to us was clear. Communities recognise the contribution the project is making to peace and cooperation across the area. They also spoke about what makes the approach effective: Peace Canal is locally rooted, we work through people from these communities, and we move at the pace of trust rather than the pace of a donor funding cycle.

We are proud of what our team and our partners have built, and grateful to FCDO and the UK Government for their continued partnership. Lasting peace in Greater Pibor will continue to come from the communities themselves. Our role is to keep walking alongside them.
